The tradition of sharing music ensemble Toba Batak
In an overview of Batak Toba traditional music ensemble can be divided into two major parts, namely:
A. Gondang ensemble Sabangunan
2. Gondang ensemble Hasapi
Of the two ensemble on the largest and most frequently used for major events is the traditional Batak Toba Gondang Sabangunan.
A. Gondang ensemble Sabangunan
The form of presentation and the instruments used are as follows:
A. The instrument is Sarune Bolon leader who serves as a carrier of the main melody in accordance with the style and characteristics of the instrument.
2. Taganing and gordang as a carrier that is more rhythmic melodies contradict (sewing) of Sarune game (the main melody}.
3. Ogung consisting of (Oloan-Ihutan-Panggora-Doal) that serve as carriers of tempo and control the movement of the foot on the tor-tor (Batak Toba traditional dance).
4. Hesek, as the basic beats to be heard by all the musicians (pargonsi) so that a harmonious ensemble Gondang Sabanguna.
2. Gondang ensemble Hasapi
Musical instruments used in the presentation of Gondang Hasapi Gondang Sabangunan almost equal but have different, is as follows:
Musical leader Sarune Etek (shorter form about one half inch fingers} as a carrier of the main melody in accordance with the style and characteristics of the instrument).
Musical co-leader Sulim (a type of bamboo flute) is also playing the main melody in accordance with the style and characteristics of the instrument). Taganing as a carrier that is more rhythmic melodies contradict (sewing) of Sarune game (the main melody}.
